‘Grape’ expectations as China tastemakers set sights on region

The South West Development Commission teamed up recently with Wine Australia and local wineries to tempt the tastebuds of an influential group from China.

Over three days, a delegation of 21 media and trade representatives as well as educators from the Asian economic powerhouse visited the South West to experience the world-renown Margaret River wine region first-hand and have opportunities to meet key winemakers in person.

The SWDC-organised itinerary included tastings, master classes and networking dinners, and as part of the visit AMRTA hosted an event at Voyager Estate to enable a small group of members to gain some additional, valuable exposure. While somewhat out of the realm of tourism, AMRTA is also working with member wineries to develop unique experiences to be promoted to overseas markets including China and involvement in these events is aimed at increasing exposure and awareness as a whole.
