How long have you been operating/in the business? We started Mukau four years ago during “the quietest Christmas on record”, and since then have only gone from strength to strength.
Tell us about your business: MuKau Giftware & Gallery is a small retail gift store and art gallery in the heart of Cowaramup. Our tag line is “Just the Spot for Quality Gifts”. We don’t have a large store yet it’s jam packed with something for everyone, and we pride ourselves on having a wide range yet unique selection of quality products, for both locals and tourists alike. We also have a small upstairs art gallery displaying an eclectic collection of works mostly from local emerging artists.
What is your unique point of difference? Many locals (ranging from Augusta to Bunbury) use our unique range as a one-stop shop for all occasions. Our regulars have come to appreciate that they can be guaranteed to find the perfect last minute panic gift, have it beautifully gift-wrapped, and pick an appropriate greeting card to complement their selection from our growing and much sort after card stock. A quick scribble in the card, and they can be on their way to meet friends or family at that special gathering, and still be assured of appearing to be most organised. We even have a fair selection of perennials popping down from Perth to do their Christmas shopping… go figure?
Do you have any new updates to share? We are always getting in new products… with over 300 suppliers, things are never static.
Favourite part of the job? The hard yards of trying to keep one step ahead and keeping our range fresh, all pays off when we see the smiles on customers faces, and hear their wonderful comments.

What do you love about Your Margaret River Region? Our Margaret River Region is simply paradise. We feel blessed to have been so warmly welcomed and openly accepted as part of the local community.
We are particularly fortunate in Cowaramup, to have a small friendly selection of boutique traders all complementing one another, yet working together with one clear focus… customer satisfaction and ultra friendly service.
