TWA China Travel Mart, Beijing
Tony travelled to Beijing last week to attend the China Travel Mart hosted by Tourism WA and spent two days meeting with 45 of the top wholesale agents from throughout China and Hong Kong.
More importantly, the agents are now showing much greater knowledge of the destination and what we have to offer.
There were many agents who we have met before at previous travel marts and the very positive news is that many are now seeing interest and results starting to develop for Your Margaret River Region.
Six months ago the feedback from the China agents was less than encouraging, with most looking for 1 night stays in the region for their customers but the feedback from these meetings is that they are now promoting itineraries featuring 2 or 3 nights in the region.
The focus is also now on more smaller groups (under 20 people) and individual travellers.
Dad, Where Are We Going?
In mid-September, Your Margaret River Region was the centre of focus for a production crew of over 200 people from China’s Hunan TV, filming new episodes of its super-popular reality TV program, Dad Where Are We Going?.
The first of two episodes went to air on Friday night and is featuring some fantastic footage from the region including from Redgate Beach, Sunflower Animal Farm, kayaking at the rivermouth, and 3 Oceans Winery.
when we say “super-popular” we mean unbelievably popular – for example, the AFL Grand Final telecast attracted 1.6million viewers, while the show in China attracted over 100 million viewers!
The word we have from China is that the first episode was amazing and this is anticipated to have a huge impact on the market from China to Your Margaret River Region. You can view the first episode (in Mandarin) see below.
If the Chinese market is of interest to you and you would like assistance to work with this market, you will need to have a pricing structure that enables bookings from inbound tour operators.
