Margaret River Region Open Studio event attracts record number of artists

The Margaret River Region Open Studios (MRROS) has received its highest number of artist registrations ever for the 2017 event, giving MRBTA members more reasons than ever to help spread the word to visitors. One hundred and twenty seven artists from across the Capes region, are included in the program covering genres such as painting, printmaking, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, pottery, jewellery, photography, up cycling, glass blowing and fine furniture.

Held over a two week period, from the 22nd April to the 7th May, the Open Studios is a free event hailed as the biggest of its kind, attracting approximately 25,000 visitations. Artists open up their own private studios or homes to the public, where the public can interact, see the artist working and purchase pieces direct.

The Open Studios event is quickly becoming one of the highlights of the art calendar and is gaining in popularity year on year. The event provides a platform for visitors, who may never have had the opportunity, to immerse themselves in a meaningful engagement with an artist. It’s also a unique experience engaging with the artist and seeing them in their actual studio and workplace. As the event expands, it provides a rich networking experience for regional artists, local commercial galleries, the tourism industry, accommodation providers and local government for the benefit of the whole community.’
