Leveraging opportunity through collaboration

Industry bodies joined forces last week to discuss working together to leverage opportunities for Wine and Tourism in the Margaret River Region.

This is the first collaboration of this scale with representatives from Tourism WA, Wines Australia, Margaret River Busselton Tourism Australia (MRBTA), Margaret River Wine Association (MRWA), Wines of Western Australia (WoWA), Australia’s South West, South West Development Commission and local wineries.

Opportunities were identified to build relationships through regular communication and to implement a consistent approach to branding and marketing strategies for the wine region.

Key actions were allocated in the inaugural meeting with the committee agreeing to meet quarterly to assess progress and define further outcomes.

Pip Close, MRBTA CEO, said “It was great to see such an enthusiastic group around the table and a genuine interest in collaboration. The region will be much stronger in future by working together.”

As part of this collaboration The Margaret River Visits Group has recently hosted some of the world’s best sommeliers and a group of influential Chinese trade and media.  Itinerary highlights included wine masterclasses, free pour tastings, a short hike along the Cape to Cape Track and a didgeridoo cave experience.  The Margaret River Visits Group, a collaboration between the South West Development Commission, the Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association and the Margaret River Wine Association, aims to support Wine Australia and other key visitors to showcase our unique region and quality fine wines.
