New guidelines for tourism signage eligibility

Main Roads WA has published new guidelines and eligibility criteria for businesses wishing to benefit from road signage on State roads.

What has changed for tourism businesses?

The guidelines include a tightening of the assessment criteria used in the approval process for new tourism signage.

Assessment Criteria

The guidelines will apply to new signage applications only. The assessment criteria includes factors such as business opening hours, onsite facilities (e.g. toilets) and being able to provide evidence of marketing and promotion activity for the tourism experience on offer.

Specific criteria has been developed for the following types of tourism businesses:

  1. Aboriginal Heritage
  2. Commercial Tourist Attraction
  3. Historic Building or Site
  4. Historic Town
  5. Natural Attraction
  6. State Tourist Drive
  7. Winery, Brewery and Distillery
  8. Tourist Accommodation
  9. Tourist Information Radio
  10. Visitor Information

How to submit your signage application

If you wish to apply for Main Roads signage for your business, please contact your relevant Local Government body to start the process. Your local government will complete an initial screening before liaising with Main Roads WA.
