MRBTA has embarked on a new research project to assess residents’ views on tourism.
The research will take place through a community survey which will analyse residents’ perceptions of the role that tourism plays in the community, of its impacts on their lives, and their understanding of MRBTA’s work in managing tourism and delivering visitor experiences. The survey will include residents across the region, from Busselton to Augusta.
Feedback gathered will inform the work of MRBTA, and key findings will be shared with government decision makers and the community.
MRBTA CEO Sharna Kearney said:
“We believe that in a region like ours, tourism is everyone’s business. Everyone who lives here is part of the local visitor economy, regardless of the type of business they work in.”
“Part of our remit as an independent body and Local Tourism Organisation is to help ensure that visitors enjoy the best possible experience, and that the community gains maximum benefit from tourism.”
“While we work closely with our 700 members, the feedback we receive from locals is largely anecdotal and is fragmented across local groups and online forums. This survey will help us to build a reliable picture of how current tourism activity aligns with local values, and of how the community views the outcomes it delivers.”
Independent research partners Verian Group and Thinkfield have been engaged to conduct surveys in the region over the next four weeks. Surveys will be conducted via face-to-face with residents, with the majority taking place via doorstep interviews.
