FACET: Our Heritage – Your Point of Difference

The workshop features award winning heritage projects and individuals, with a focus on exploring innovative ways to interpret and promote WA’s cultural heritage, and includes examples of the positive economic and social impacts of sharing our heritage stories.

The workshop program will deliver six presentations, as well as panel discussions and a special guided tour of the State Buildings by award-winning tour guide Ryan Mossny of Two Feet & a Heartbeat.  Program concludes at 5.00pm.  Participants will be invited to stay for networking from 5.00pm at the Petition Beer Kitchen.

Digital Innovation in Museums – Busselton Jetty Museum
Lisa Shreeve, Chief Executive Officer, Busselton Jetty will explore the ways in which the Busselton Jetty uses digital innovation to keep repeat visitors engaged and encourage community participation.

Fremantle Prison – Economic & Social Impact
Paula Nelson, Executive Director, Fremantle Prison will present the results of a recent study that looked at the economic and social impact the Fremantle Prison provides in its capacity as a valuable tourism asset to Fremantle and explore future development options for the World Heritage Site.

Heritage Tourism Activating Regional Communities – City of Bunbury
The City of Bunbury’s Lacey Brown will discuss the role local government has played in encouraging heritage tourism including the development of the Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre, the recently upgraded Koombana Bridge and the interpretation of the former Bunbury Timber Jetty.

Innovative Heritage Tourism Project – Jetty to Jetty Walk Trail, Broome
Sarah Yu, Nyamba Buru Yawuru Curator will present on the Jetty to Jetty self-guided trail along the Roebuck Bay Foreshore.  The Jetty to Jetty heritage walk rail spans 13 historical and cultural sites between Streeter’s Jetty and the site of Broome’s Old Jetty that allows visitors to experience Broome’s rich cultural heritage.  Integral to the project is the free app an audio companion that includes 90 minutes of stories and music.

Revitalising Perth’s East End –  Historic Heart
FJM Property’s Adrian Fini will present on the ‘Historic Heart’ project that aims to revitalise Perth’s east end, from an area that has lost its vitality over past decades to create a thriving destination for residents and tourists with curated walks and trails linking heritage-listed buildings and mini-museums.

Interpretation in a Remote Location – Old Onslow’s Interpretation Signage Project 
Alexis Guillot and Amelia Waters from the Pilbara Regional Council will talk about the council’s interpretation project that has given a new lease of life to the previous ghost town of Old Onslow, turning it into a must-see attraction for visitors travelling to the North West.

Tour of the State Buildings
Ryan Mossny, founder and director of award-winning tour business Two Feet & a Heartbeat will lead a tour of the State Buildings.  Attendees will be broken up into two groups.  With one group having afternoon tea while the other takes a tour of the site.

Networking Function
Delegates are invited to stay for a post-event networking function in the Petition Beer Kitchen from 5.00-6.00pm.  FACET will provide the first drink for attendees and the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage will provide finger food.
