MRBTA Special General Meeting & Tourism Update

Special General Meeting 

The Board of the MRBTA have called the SGM to deal with two items:

1. An amendment to the Constitution to enable members to vote in Board member elections electronically.  

The current Constitution prescribes that only a postal ballot can be used for voting in Board member elections.  Members will be asked to vote in favour of removing the reference to postal voting which will enable electronic methods to be used.  This will make it easier for members to participate in election voting.

2. An increase in the funds allocated to Board and Audit & Risk Committee (ARC) stipends to ensure that MRBTA can continue to attract professional, skilled, and experienced Board members in future. 

The current stipend amounts have remained unchanged since they were first introduced in 2017.  In this time, the complexity of MRBTA’s operations, and the accountabilities of Board members, has increased.  In particular, the role of the Chair has expanded to include significant representation of MRBTA with decision makers and amongst the community.

The MRBTA Board is recommending to members that the total pool of stipends be increased to $57,000 to ensure it can attract and secure a qualified Board Chair at the end of the current Chair’s term (October 2024), recognise the work undertaken by the Audit and Risk Committee over and above their Board duties, and make a provision for expenses incurred by Board members (from October 2023).

This is one of two Tourism Update events held by MRBTA each year, which receive strong attendance from members wishing to learn about trends impacting our industry and how MRBTA is responding.

We will be sharing crucial insights to help you in your business planning and development. This is also an excellent opportunity for you to enter into a deeper dialogue with MRBTA, to help shape our priorities and explore new ways to collaborate.
