Cruise season to the Margaret River Region and the beautiful anchorage of Busselton kicks off this November with two scheduled ship arrivals:

Emerald Princess – 9 November
This is the inaugural visit for the Emerald Princess to this destination. Launched in 2007, she is one of the largest cruise ships in the Princess fleet offering a capacity of 3092 passengers and a crew of 1200. She will visit as part of a 7 day Southern Australia cruise from Fremantle to Sydney.
The MRBTA with industry partners, Tourism WA, City of Busselton and the Busselton Chamber of Commerce and Industry are making last preparations for another season of successful cruising. A team of +70 local volunteers, buskers and musical talent from local schools are already on hand help MRBTA’s Busselton Visitor Centre staff to meet and greet tender arrivals and welcome passengers as they disembark for day tours or a few hours to wander Busselton.
MRBTA are looking to recruit more volunteers to help welcome the 11 scheduled cruise arrivals (potential 18,000 passengers) for the 2016/17 season. If interested please email [email protected].

‘Welcoming Cruise Passengers to the West’ Workshop (Phase 3)
As part of the season launch, Tourism Western Australia is coming back to the region to launch Phase 3 in the series of training workshops for the WA’s port destinations.
Who should attend:
Cruise lines consider unique landside visits an integral element of the overall cruise experience. This workshop will benefit those who interact with cruise passengers, by providing insights into the skills that ensure cruise passengers have a memorable visit. The workshop is a must for coach operators, tourism attractions, tour guides, volunteers and others.
Topics will range from understanding cruise line expectations, to providing interesting commentary and storytelling for passengers.
Tuesday 22 November 2.30pm-5.30pm or Wednesday 23 November 9am-12pm
(12-12.30pm on Wednesday will be an information session for first time Cruise volunteers)

Workshop facilitator Cherie Toovey, President of Tour Guides WA, has more than eighteen years’ experience in the inbound tourism industry as a Tour Guide. She has been recognised for her extensive industry knowledge and skills, including winning the FACET Golden Guide Award in 2006. Cherie has extensive experience in delivering guiding and interpretive training to the St George’s Cathedral guides, together with Parliament House and Rottnest Island guides.
