Message issued by MRBTA Chair Stuart Hicks:

Dear Member,

Earlier this week, the MRBTA Board and management team had the pleasure of meeting with the Board and Cultural Advisory Committee of Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation, the regional corporation for the South West Boojarah region.

We are grateful to Chair, Prof Stephen Van Leeuwen and his team for their time and valuable discussions. It was truly a privilege to meet with such a highly skilled and experienced group, and to establish our mutual intent to work together.

The commencement of Karri Karrak marks an important milestone for the South West. A huge amount of work has led to this moment, which here on Wadandi country includes many years of work by Undalup Association to advance greater understanding and collaboration in the region. We look forward to Karri Karrak playing an increasing and significant role in seeing this continue, and in providing support to Undalup’s work.

In line with MRBTA’s Strategic Directions, the meeting provided an opportunity to express our intention to play a role in ensuring that the spiritual and cultural associations of Wadandi Pibbelmun people with our region are truly recognised, respected and celebrated, and that their skills and knowledge in caring for country are key elements in the way we manage our future.

We were also able to outline MRBTA’s practical involvement in caring for country at the sites we manage, and to assist visitors and our members to do the same.

From our discussions it is clear that MRBTA and Karri Karrak share many hopes and aspirations. I am certain there will be great opportunities for us to pursue them together. Together with our team, I look forward to maintaining an open-hearted continuing collaboration between our two organisations.

Sincerely

Stuart Hicks
Chair
