Vasse Virgin is seeking help from the Margaret River Region community:
Since 2009 we have been making olive oil based food products under the name ‘Vasse Virgin’. We adopted a logo which was registered as a trade mark. Until recently we have used this brand on our products. We are endeavouring to refresh our brand and extend its coverage to include cosmetics and body care products – again, made from our virgin olive oil. Our new trade mark is shown above.
A company associated with Sir Richard Branson called Virgin Enterprises Limited (VEL) is opposing our application to register the new trade mark. They say because of their longstanding use of the word VIRGIN there is a real and tangible risk that Australian consumers might be confused as to whether Vasse Virgin and Vasse Virgin products are associated with VEL.
