How long have you been operating/in the business? It is over 25 years since Helen Lee, otherwise known as the “Bushtucker Woman” ran her first Bushtucker Tour on the Margaret River.
Tell us about your business (your elevator pitch in 30secs): Helen has worked long and hard to manage an ethical and dedicated system of business with 15 talented Bushtucker employees who are specialists in tourism and tour guiding. Helen believes that to succeed, people need to know their distinct passions and then to surround yourself with people who support the passions you seek. From Cave and Canoe Tours down the unspoiled Margaret River to tantalising your taste buds on a Winery & Brewery Tour, Helen has received several accolades such as 1995 Telstra Business Award – Community Service Award, 1996 & 1997 Heritage and Cultural Award and in 1999 she was awarded an inaugural FACET Golden Guide award for the best tour guide, the only one of its kind in Australia.

What is your unique point of difference? Bushtucker River & Winery Tours is the only tour in the region offering a unique Australian bush tucker lunch. From deliciously smoked kangaroo, crocodile and emu meat, to colorful local spices, to exotic native Australian fruits, pesto’s and chutneys. The healthy and exciting menu also caters for any dietary requirements on each tour. All ages, all nationalities enjoy a quality Australian experience.
Do you have any new updates to share – i.e. renovations, new services or products, etc. In 2015, private river and winery tours on Margaret River are now popular. Deluxe Margaret River tours with the winemaker are also highly booked. Bus and driver hire in small, medium and large busses are bookable too! As we have 3 different locations in 2015, guests are not travelling long distances to enjoy the Margaret River region.

Anything else you’d like other members to know about you and/or your business? Owned and operated by Helen Lee, who is administrator, guide and innovator. Helen is the force behind the Bushtucker Empire and has a deep commitment to educated tour guiding. West Australian born with an education in Anthropology and a keen botany enthusiast. Helen’s passion for the environment has enabled her over the years to discover interesting and unique native Australian bush foods which she incorporates into each and every tour.
