WA Government Support Packages Update

Applications are now open for the WA Government’s Safe Transition Industry Support Package programs for tourism operators. We encourage you to visit the Tourism WA website to check your eligibility and submit your application before the deadline of Thursday 31st March.

Programs which may be of particular assistance to MRBTA members include:

Tourism Support Program

For tourism operators who have experienced a substantial sustained downturn and were readying their business for the return of visitors on 5 February. Sole traders may be eligible for a one-off payment of $10,000, or $20,000 for employing businesses.

Eligibility criteria includes:

  • Minimum reduction of 30 per cent in turnover between the 2018-19 and 2020-21 financial years;
  • Membership of the WA tourism industry through membership or accreditation of identified tourism organisations;
  • Turnover greater than $50,000.

Tourism Deposit Refund Program

For businesses that have refunded interstate and international deposits on bookings as a result of changes to border control measures from February 5. Eligible businesses may receive funding of up to $50,000 to support their refunds. Eligibility criteria includes:

  • 30 per cent reduction in forward bookings over the period 5 February to 5 May 2022 (or an alternative 3 month period for seasonal businesses);
  • Membership of the WA tourism industry through membership or accreditation of identified tourism organisations;
  • Turnover greater than $50,000.

MRBTA Assistance with Your Application

If you require evidence of being an active member of the WA Tourism Industry to support your application, MRBTA will be happy to provide a letter of support. In particular, we will look to confirm your participation in any of the following initiatives:

  • Wander out Yonder/30 Days 30 Ways (September – December 2020)
  • South West Wanderer Incentive Program (2021/2022)
  • ‘Airline Ready’ training in support of Melbourne-Busselton Jetstar route
  • Interstate market drive trails
  • International Wine Tourism grant

Other Government Support Options

The McGowan Government has also announced a Business Assistance Package for businesses adversely affected by the implementation of Level 1 public health and social measures.

The following support programs may be of particular assistance for MRBTA members:

  • Liquor licensing fees: Fees waived or refunded for 2022. Fees will also be waived for variations to licensing to enable alfresco services, and to permit the sale of take-away alcohol as part of a take-away meal. Learn more
  • Outdoor dining and entertainment support package:To assist small businesses in the hospitality sector with creating and expanding an alfresco area to meet the requirements of public health and social measures. Learn more
